Project story
Botley is a local district centre that sits on the edge of Oxford city. With attractive surroundings, good retail offerings and a committed community, the centre has plenty to offer but is let down by a dated 1960s shopping precinct.
Since joining the scheme as developer we have coupled our expertise in sympathetic regeneration with our knowledge of Oxford to transform the previously rejected plans. We are now leading the mixed-use project through demolition and construction, and into occupation.
The new scheme has been designed to reinvigorate the local centre's character and surrounding area with high-quality homes, a hotel, student accommodation, public facilities including a new community building, 51,000 sq ft of retail and restaurant space, and attractive outside areas. We have worked in close consultation with the community to shape the plans, decrease construction time and minimise disruption to existing community amenities.
A key part of the development is a central public piazza with restaurants and cafes, which will provide an attractive focal point to the mixed-use scheme.
When completed, West Way Square will complement Botley’s charm as a bustling centre that will offer something for the whole community and the many people who visit the district.
Stats
“Having seen the breadth and depth of their experience in the Oxford area it was an extremely easy decision to partner with Mace. Their track record of delivering complex schemes on sensitive sites in Oxford, combined with their knowledge and understanding of the student accommodation market, and construction expertise, is exemplary and a strong fit with our proposals.”
“The West Way Square planning consent is a genuinely community-led proposal, shaped by an eight-month public consultation that included four meetings of a community liaison group, a series of community workshops and a public exhibition. This consultation enabled community views to be fed into the proposals, guiding the plans at every stage of the design process.”
